Symptoms
MacOS clients that use the SMB1 or SMB2 protocol to access an Isilon cluster running 8.0.0.x to 8.1.2.0 will receive a "No such file or directory" error when attempting to access a Snapshot directory.
Cause
OneFS 8.0.0.x to 8.1.2.0 were changed to prevent access to Snapshot directories from Mac clients, to avoid the effects of a mountpoint stop responding as described in KB 471801.
Resolution
To function correctly for a client the cluster must be running one of the following version combinations:
- OneFS 8.1.2.0 with 8.1.2.0_UDA-RUP_2019-07 or later
- OneFS 8.2.0.0 or later
And, for clients to be able to access Snapshot directories on SMB shares below /ifs (for instance /ifs/subdir/.snapshot) the following SMB settings must be set to Yes, as viewed from
isi smb settings global view:
Dot Snap Accessible Child: Yes
Dot Snap Accessible Root: Yes
Dot Snap Visible Child: Yes
Dot Snap Visible Root: Yes
Finally, Mac clients must use the workaround from
KB 47801 to prevent their mountpoints from going unresponsive after changing to the Snapshot directory.
