Need to run Dell grabs on a Microsoft Windows host.
There are two tools for gathering logs and configuration information from Microsoft Windows Servers or Virtual Machines.
Either are sufficient, but EMCReports is a legacy tool and moving forward the Grab for Windows becomes the more required.
EMCReports
Instructions for running EMCReports on Windows Hosts or VMs
The utility must be run with administrator rights.
This is run directly on the host is question.
- Download the latest utility from https://central.dell.com/solutions/EMCReports1 (requires a Dell account) and copy it to the server or VM in question.
- Log in to the Server or VM and right click on the utility and run as administrator.
- The EMCReports may take 10 minutes or more to run.
- The EMCReports output is deposited in c:\Windows\Emcreports\collection\zip\
- The EMCReports output is in the format Hostname_date_time_EMCRPT_x64.zip

Instructions for running Grab for Windows on Windows Hosts or VMs
The utility must be run with administrator rights.
This is run directly on the host is question.
- Download the latest utility from https://central.dell.com/solutions/GrabforWindows (requires a Dell account) and copy it to the server or VM in question.
- Log in to the Server or VM and right-click the utility and "Run as administrator."
- The Grab for Windows is a self-extract program that requests you expand it to a specific location (users choice).
- Go to that location and right-click the "grab.exe" and "Run as administrator."
- The Grab for Windows output is deposited in the "outputs" folder in the location where the grab.exe is located.
- The output is in the format hostname_timestamp_Windows_grab_v5.0.0-00_full.zip
Once complete, the resulting .zip file can be uploaded to the case or a requested ftp location.
Note FTP access requires either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome with IETab or Microsoft EDGE with IETab or a third-party FTP client.
