Symptoms
The Avamar garbage collection process fails with:
ERROR: <4202> failed garbage collection with error MSG_ERR_BADTIMESYNC
Cause
Time is not synchronised between one or more Avamar data nodes and utility node.
This causes Avamar maintenance activities to fail.
Resolution
Workaround:
1. Log in to Avamar over a putty session. Load the admin keys.
See
Avamar: How to Log in to an Avamar Server and Load Various Keys.
2. Check time is synchronised across all Avamar nodes. See
APPENDIX A for sample output.
mapall --all --parallel 'date'
3. If the time is not synchronised, follow the
Avamar: How to Change NTP on an Avamar Server Using asktime to synchronize time across all nodes.
4. Confirm if garbage collection completes successfully.
Additional Information
APPENDIX A:
Sample output for "mapall date" command.
(All node times are synchronized).
mapall --all --parallel 'date'
